What Is Frontal Bossing?
During puberty, the male skull can develop a more pronounced prominence above the brow line, extending across the forehead and toward the outer eye sockets. FFS specialists refer to this area as frontal bossing.
Female foreheads generally have a smoother, less projecting contour. Because hormone replacement therapy does not change the underlying cranial shape, surgery may be considered when forehead contouring is desired as part of facial feminization.

Frontal Bossing Plasty
During consultation, Dr. Bensimon can determine which approach is most appropriate for the patient’s anatomy and surgical goals.
Type 1
For appropriate anatomy, the surgeon may smooth or reduce areas of bony prominence using specialized instruments.
Type 2
More advanced contouring may be required when the forehead shape cannot be adequately changed through surface reduction alone.
Type 3
In cases where greater projection needs to be addressed, the frontal bone may need to be repositioned and set farther back.
Personalized Forehead Contouring
The final surgical plan is determined after an individual assessment of your anatomy.

For patients in the Montreal area, staples can be removed at the office approximately 8 days after surgery when applicable.
Patients are also advised to sleep with the head elevated to help relieve pressure and reduce swelling during recovery.
