You will receive detailed pre-operative instructions before surgery, including information about medications, recovery, and any supplies you may need.

What to Prepare

Before surgery, you may be asked to:
  • Arrange any prescribed medications in advance
  • Follow your fasting instructions
  • Stop smoking at least 4 weeks before surgery
  • Purchase surgical or antiembolic stockings if required
  • Remove nail polish from fingers and toes
  • Remove all jewelry and body piercings
  • Arrange transportation and post-operative support

Keep It Comfortable

Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing on surgery day.
Leave jewelry, valuables, and unnecessary personal items at your accommodation.

If you are coming from outside the Montreal area, our office can provide information about nearby hotels and help you plan your stay.

You should also arrange for a close relative or support person to be available during the post-operative period. Overnight nursing support may also be arranged when needed.
